Hey, I’m Lisa.

Ever feel like life is a rollercoaster? At times things are going along (mostly) good, or great! Other times you might feel overwhelmed, unsure and alone. This has been my experience. I believe that when we feel supported, it is easier to move forward through the tough parts of life. I would love to join in your journey to improved health, healing and living whole.

My Approach

Collaborative

I believe that you have the answers to what you need. In working together, we can build on the strengths you have, discover new resources and work to heal things that have happened that get in the way of moving forward.

Relationship Focused

I have been helping people for more than 20 years. I use a variety of evidence based approaches to help people to develop skills to keep moving forward.

I believe that the most important part of any therapy is the therapeutic relationship. I work to provide a safe space for people to be themselves. The goal is to feel more connected to yourself, your health, and those important to you.

Trauma Informed Treatment

There are things in life that happen, out of our control, that leave us feeling hopeless, helpless and scared. We will process these experiences to lessen the impact they have on your well being.

Areas of Focus

Life changes = Stress

We all have changes that happen throughout our lives. At times we decide to make the change, other times we are moved to do so. No matter the circumstances, change can be exciting and scary. We might feel off balance, and need to find ways to decrease the effects of stress.

Parenting Challenges

As the parenting journey begins, we might feel the path is pretty predictable. I can tell you, I have not met a parent that really experiences this. Parenting is another ride! I have walked with parents who have needed support as their child struggled with mental health, trauma, and behavioral issues.

About me.

I have lived in South Dakota most of my life, with a few years just across the border into Iowa. Following high school graduation, I attended a few universities to complete my undergraduate degree. I graduated from Buena Vista University with majors in psychology and sociology, with an emphasis on criminal justice.

Following this, I worked in a residential treatment setting for girls ages 12-18. I learned so much from this first work experience in the helping field. After a few years, I attended graduate school at South Dakota State University and obtained my Master of Counseling and Human Resource degree. I had the opportunity to develop the first co-occurring disorder program for the South Dakota Correctional system. I worked with men who had lifelong struggles with mental health issues and addiction. This experience was also full of learning, about helping those in the most difficult of situations, and about myself.

Since that experience, I have worked at a residential treatment center for children ages 4-14. I had the privilege of working with children and their families. The areas of focused were on mental health issues that were often accompanied by experiences of trauma. I was able to walk along side parents as they learned new ways to care for and support their child or children. Often this journey led to the parent’s own healing and growth.

My role as a leader of that organization gave me the opportunity to guide and teach professionals in this field. I understand the emotional toll that comes along with helping others, but also the great joy that comes from watching others heal and grow.

All of these experiences have led me to this point. I am honored by the stories that have been shared with me. The most important part to me is how I value each individual. Every person has experiences that have been difficult and shaped the way we view ourselves, our purpose, and our relationships. I work to help people see clearly their own value.

Taking care of yourself is so important. Let’s work together to build feelings of safety, connection and hope.
